Lustig

Burgenland, Austria

Lustig, meaning fun or happy in German, is an excellent value Grüner Veltliner made by Josef and Pia Wurzinger at their winery in Tadten Seewinkel in Burgenland, near the Hungarian border. The Wurzinger estate is located just east of the famous Neusiedlersee lake and the climate is Pannonian, with cold winters and hot summers moderated by the steady breezes from the lake. Lustig Grüner Veltliner 1L is made from a selection of vineyards that feature sand, clay, and gravel with rocky chalk outcroppings. The vineyards are all planted with green cover crops and there are no herbicides used. The wine is macerated for six hours then fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel for ten days. It remained on its fine lees for an additional ten weeks before bottling.

Lustig Orange Grüner Veltliner 2022

New! A terrific value skin contact wine made from organically grown Gruner Veltliner planted on soils of gravel, clay and chalk. This bottling spent three weeks on the skins in order to gently extract color and phenols. Just before bottling, some additional Gruner was added for a more fruit forward profile. The wine features a bright yellow color with a somewhat cloudy appearance. The nose is spicy and forward, with a distinct grapefruit skin aroma, along with notes of peach and apricot.. The palate is soft with a bit of tannin from the skins and a nice, animated, fresh finish. The liter bottles make a great value. Spontaneous fermentation, no filtration, and vegan friendly. Certified organic by LACON Institut GmbH. 12.5% alcohol.
