These are the first wines I have tasted from Partage, a new label created by sommelier Mark Bright, who also runs the wine programs at the acclaimed three-star Michelin Saison and sister wine bar, Les Clos, both in San Francisco. The 2013s showed a work in progress, while the 2014s represent a big step forward. Mark Bright, Sommelier at Saison restaurant in San Francisco first met Ryan Beauregard, a 4th generation winemaker in the Santa Cruz Mountains, in 2009, when living in Davenport, at the near the town of Bonny Doon. The two began sharing and critiquing wines, and in 2013, Partage Wine Company was founded. Mark makes the wines at Beauregard Winery.

The 2014 vintage in the Santa Cruz Mountains was challenging due to drought, but produced amazing fruit with lower yields than the previous harvests. An ideal growing season with moderate temperatures and weather conditions throughout allowed the vines to stay healthy and maintain concentrated flavors and exceptional quality in the smaller clusters and lower yields

Chardonnay Bald Mountain Vineyard Ben Lomond Mountain AVA 2014

Located in a tiny sub-appellation of the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA, known as Ben Lomond Mountain, the vines are planted at between 950 and 1050 feet, with a SW exposition on a base of granite with a sandy, white topsoil. The sandy soils and cool climate promote aromatics and acidity. In 1982 Jim Beauregard (Ryan’s father) worked rigorously to establish the Ben Lomond Mountain AVA, a distinctively different terroir than the rest of the Santa Cruz Mountains. The 2014 saw just one racking before bottling. Super precise aromatics and excellent acidity.

Partage Pinot Noir Coast Grade Vyd Ben Lomond Mtn AVA 2014

Ryan Beauregard planted this vineyard in 2007. Located just two miles from the ocean, this 17 acre vineyard sits at an elevation of 1,238 to 1,350 feet on a southwest facing slope. Monterey Bay influences combine with sandy loam soil and a limestone base to produce wine with minerallity and striking acidity. Only 550 cases were made in 2014.

Partage Pinot Noir Saveria Vineyard Santa Cruz MountainsAVA 2014

Noted grape grower Prudy Foxx manages the Saveria vineyard. The vineyard, located near the town of Aptos and only 4.5 miles from the Pacific, was planted in the late 1990s. Soils consist of well-drained sand and calcareous marine deposits and have a naturally low pH. Both Failla and Arnot-Roberts, among others, make wine from Saveria. Mark used 30% stems in the 2014. Only 250 cases available

 “The 2014 Pinot Noir Saveria Vineyard is dark, plush and inviting, yet remains very much in the mid-weight style favored by proprietor Mark Bright. Dark red cherry, new leather, blood orange and spice flesh out as this succulent, expressive Pinot shows off its distinctive personality. A hint of white pepper adds aromatic lift on the finish. Chardonnay Regan Vineyard, Santa Cruz Mountains AVA 2014

Regan is located on a bench just within the Santa Cruz Mountains boundaries on the borders of Watsonville, CA. At almost 1500 feet in elevation, just above the fog line, the Regan vineyard is known for its cool climate, allowing for a long, slow ripening. Regan is owned John Bargetto, a 4th generation winegrower. This a classic Santa Cruz Mountains; ripe flavor with low alcohol and racy acidity.


 Partage Pinot Noir Lester Vineyard Santa Cruz Mtns AVA 2014

Prudy Foxx also manages the Lester vineyard, where 14 acres of Pinot Noir are planted on clay and broken granite soils at 500’ elevation. Mark kept 50% of the stems during fermentation in 2014. 30% new oak. This is the most structured of all the Partage Pinot Noirs. Only 100cs avail.
